So often in today’s music scene, where the independent artist is so common, we are seeing more and more “failures to communicate” because some of these unmanaged artists have no sense of professionalism when it comes to contacting industry professionals.

We recently spoke on this very subject at a music industry panel discussion and ALL of our colleagues agreed that they have faced this so many times themselves.

If you are an independent artist that chooses to not use a manager for interaction with industry professionals, then PLEASE learn how to communicate in a professional/respectful way before you contact us. We all know it’s not impossible to find a way to contact someone at a record label or booking agency… it’s HOW you contact them that you need to consider!!!

If you are one of those artists that is sending a MySpace message sounding something like “Yo dawg, my joints are hott and you gotta go check my shit cuz it is tight and I’m the hottest thing in Hotlanta right now!”, let me break the news to you… you are not given the first thought of being a serious artist that we in the industry will waste our time to go to your MySpace page!

Also, if you are going to take the time to contact people in the industry and you want us to take time to pay attention to you… then PLEASE pay attention to us! IF we have explicit instructions on how to submit a demo, then follow those instructions!!! If we take the time to write up step-by-step instructions on how we want to be contacted, and you completely ignore those instructions and just find any possible way to email us, why would we want to work with an artist that cannot listen?

Music industry professionals have been doing this for a long time and many of these steps have been perfected through trial and error over the years. You are obviously reaching out to industry people for a reason… so if you’re going to contact us… listen to us!!!

We welcome your comments on this issue as it is one that we are very passionate about!

Tabu Nightclub in Orlando, Florida is having their first ever Freestyle Music Industry Panel.

This panel was developed to help artists prepare for industry related issues and create mentoring relationships with industry professionals.

Tabu has celebrated the Freestyle genre for two years, with their “Classic Freestyle Series”. Every third Wednesday of the month, they play all Freestyle music and feature a live performance by many of the amazing old-school Freestyle artists.

X-Static Records will be there, as a part of this industry panel, to offer some of the new-generation Freestyle artists advice and an opportunity to work with them.

Freestyle Music 101 is not just a project... It's a movement!

Freestyle Music 101 is not just a project… It’s a movement!

X-Static Records, along with our sister company X-Static Media Group and other strategic partners, has created a project to renew the Freestyle Music genré. Freestyle Music 101 is not just a website, it’s not just a radio station, it’s a movement to keep this genré alive as well as to become a breeding ground for new generation Freestyle artists.

While the project will live on it’s website (FreestyleMusic101.com), it is much more than just a website. There is a radio element that will play non-stop Freestyle 24/7; there is a social network element where people can join and become a part of the community; there is a live venue element that will support the on-going performance of Freestyle music; there is a resource element for up and coming artists; and much, much more…

This project is an idea, a collaboration, a movement… and it is ever-growing!

Keep your eyes and ears on this one as it will be pretty amazing when it all comes together!!!
